Terms of Service
Last updated: July 26, 2026
Welcome to AstroLina. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and AstroLina ("AstroLina", "we", "us") — a small, two-person project. By using AstroLina or creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
Questions? Email contact@astrolina.org.
1. What AstroLina is
AstroLina is web-based astrocartography software available at astrolina.org and maps.astrolina.org. You can use it without an account. Creating a free account unlocks the Advanced toolkit, and a paid Pro tier unlocks the professional toolkit (see Paid features and billing below).
2. Your account
- You must provide a valid email address. We sign you in with one-time codes sent to that address (passwordless), so keep access to your inbox secure.
- You're responsible for activity under your account. Let us know promptly if you think it's been accessed without your permission.
- Accounts are for individual people. You must be at least 16 years old to create one.
3. Acceptable use
Please use AstroLina lawfully and fairly. You agree not to:
- break the law or infringe others' rights;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, or circumvent the service's security or rate limits;
- access the service through automated means in a way that abuses it, or scrape it at scale;
- resell or commercially redistribute the hosted service or your account; or
- misuse the email features (for example, to harass others by triggering messages).
We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or harm the service or other users.
4. Not professional advice
AstroLina is for personal insight, learning, and entertainment. It is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, legal, financial, or other advice. Decisions you make based on the software are your own.
5. Open source and intellectual property
The core of AstroLina is free, open-source software, released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). You're welcome to use, study, and build on that code under the terms of that license — see astrolina.org.
These Terms govern your use of the hosted service (this website and any Pro features), which is separate from the open-source license. The AstroLina name, logo, and our proprietary add-ons are ours and aren't granted to you by these Terms or by the open-source license.
6. Your data and content
The birth details, charts, journal entries, reports, and other content you create are yours. If you're not signed in, they stay in your browser. When you're signed in, the charts you save — and, on the Pro tier, your journal entries, saved reports (including any notes you write and map images you attach), and pinned places, plus a home location if you set one — are stored on our servers so they sync across your devices, and you can delete them at any time. You're responsible for the information you enter, including having any necessary permission to enter details about other people — for example, a client's name and birth details in a chart or a report you prepare for them. What we collect, and why, is described in our Privacy Policy.
Turning sync off. Your account screen lets you switch content sync off, keeping the charts and other content you create from then on only in that device's browser (your session, billing, and account settings still work normally — the switch governs your content, as the Privacy Policy describes). That mode is your choice and comes with a trade-off: while sync is off we hold no copy of your new work, so if the device is lost, or its browser data is cleared, that work can't be recovered by us. Back up accordingly, or turn sync back on to upload it.
Share links. AstroLina can create a link that contains a chart's birth details, so the person you send it to can open the same chart. Sharing such a link is your choice and your responsibility: the details travel in the link itself, recipients get their own copy, and a link can't be recalled once sent. Don't share links containing someone else's birth details without their permission.
Reading for other people. If you use AstroLina professionally and store a client's information with us — their name and birth details in a chart, or in a report you prepare for them — you decide what to collect and why; we only hold it and sync it back to you, on your instructions, as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for having the right to enter those details and for telling your clients how you use tools like this one. We don't contact your clients, don't use their information for anything of our own, and delete it when you delete it or close your account. If your own obligations require a written data-processing agreement, email contact@astrolina.org and we'll sort one out.
7. Paid features and billing
The core of AstroLina — and the Advanced toolkit that comes with a free account — stays free. The Pro tier is a paid upgrade. We won't charge you without your clear agreement, and here is how paying for Pro works:
- Plans. Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription and as a one-time "lifetime" purchase. The current prices, billing period, currency, and any applicable taxes are always shown at checkout before you pay.
- Payment processing. Payments are handled by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card details go directly to Stripe over its secure checkout — we never see or store your full card number.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. A subscription renews at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price for your plan, until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your account screen (Manage billing): you keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for, and you won't be charged again.
- We'll tell you before a price goes up. If we change the price of a plan you're subscribed to, we'll email you before the new price takes effect, in time for you to cancel if you'd rather not pay it.
- Free trials. We may offer a free trial. Its length and terms are shown when you start it; a payment method is required, and unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription begins and your payment method is charged. Trials are limited to one per account — and one per person: deleting an account to start a fresh trial isn't in the spirit of the offer, and we may decline to extend one.
- Promotions. We may run time-limited promotional pricing. A promotion applies as described where it's offered (for example, to your first billing period), and standard pricing applies after it ends.
- Switching plans. If you switch from a subscription to the lifetime purchase, we credit the unused portion of what you've already paid against the lifetime price — the exact amounts are shown before you confirm.
- "Lifetime" means the life of the service. The lifetime purchase is a single payment that keeps Pro unlocked on your account for as long as we operate the hosted service (see Availability below). It isn't a promise that the service will exist forever, and it belongs to your account — it can't be resold or transferred.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment can't be collected after Stripe's retries, your Pro access lapses; your account and the free tiers are unaffected.
- EU/UK consumers: 14-day right of withdrawal. If you're a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of making it: email contact@astrolina.org within those 14 days and we'll refund the payment in full. Pro starts as soon as you buy — you agree to that at checkout — and using it during those 14 days doesn't cost you the refund.
- Refunds. Beyond that, and except where the law gives you a right to one, payments aren't automatically refundable — but we're two humans, not a wall: if something went wrong, email contact@astrolina.org and we'll do our best to make it right.
- Complimentary access. We sometimes grant Pro free of charge (for example, to testers). Such access is a courtesy, separate from any purchase, and we may adjust or withdraw it.
- Deleting your account cancels any active subscription immediately and stops future charges. (The Privacy Policy explains which transaction records must survive for tax and accounting reasons.)
8. Availability and "as is"
We work hard to keep AstroLina running and accurate, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that calculations will suit any particular purpose. We may add, change, or remove features, or pause or discontinue the service.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, AstroLina and the people behind it won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Termination
You can stop using AstroLina at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the service or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, email account holders at least 30 days before the new Terms take effect — in time to cancel or delete your account if you'd rather not accept them. Continuing to use AstroLina after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. General
- Severability. If part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the hosted service, and replace any earlier discussions about it.
- Assignment. Your account and these Terms are personal to you and can't be transferred without our consent. We may assign these Terms if AstroLina changes hands (for example, in a reorganisation) — your rights under them come along intact.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a part of these Terms right away, we haven't given it up.
- Professional use is yours to answer for. If you use AstroLina in your own practice, you're responsible for your client relationships and for claims that arise from how you use the service and what you enter into it — see Your data and content above.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction over any disputes, except where mandatory local consumer-protection law gives you other rights.
